How To Add Pilates To Your Self-Care Routine
Self-care has become a buzzword lately, but for good reason. From trying to juggle work, a social life, kids, events, to just waking up in the morning ready to tackle the day, life moves fast and can be overwhelming. This is where self-care and Pilates comes in!
Self-care is the extra time you spend in your day dedicated solely to you. It can mean different things to different people. For example, my self-care might include sitting on the couch with a good book or setting out for a long solo bike ride. Whereas someone else could enjoy sitting outside in the sun completely alone, distraction free. As long as you’re taking time to do something for you that makes you feel good, that’s all you need.
Pilates and self-care go hand in hand. Pilates is designed to get you out of your head and into your body. (See more on that here!) So, adding this form of exercise to your routine will help you decompress and relax. Here’s how:
Plan ahead!
Dedicating time to yourself and your Pilates practice is an amazing way to give back to your body and make you feel strong and ready for anything.
It’s so easy to put self-care on the bottom of your to-do list but setting up reminders for yourself will set you up for success.
Tip: the My Workout Calendar feature on Pilatesology allows you to set parameters for the workouts you receive and let’s you decide on when to receive your daily (or weekly) workouts to keep you accountable to get them done!
Refresh your studio or home workout space
Whether that means getting new equipment or rearranging the layout of your space, a little spring cleaning & organizing can do wonders for motivation and a fresh head space.
Tip: I love using my essential oil diffuser during my Pilates workouts at home! It helps set the scene for a relaxing (or heart-pumping) workout and re-invigorates the space. My favorite scents to use are lavender for stretchy, relaxing workouts or eucalyptus for more fast-paced, cardio Pilates exercises. See some of my favorite workouts below:
Write it out!
I love journaling before or after my workouts to check in with my body. This can help you determine if your workouts are fulfilling your needs. Do you need to kick it up a notch with cardio workouts? Are you feeling more meditative and want to slow it down?
